How Do You Kill a God?

“How does one kill a god?” A student asked.

The question rolling like thunder across the room,

Memories surfacing in my mind like waves on the seashore.

“How do you kill a god?” I repeated with a smile.

The king of the gods stands before me,

His silhouette large and unyielding in the twilight.

My body cloaked in thick armour,

A steel sword at my hip.

“Not with iron or steel.” I murmured to the crowd.

The clashing of iron echoes into the silence,

My sword clattering to the ground as I relinquish my armour.

Golden blood seeps from the god’s torso,

Staining his skin gold.

He winces in pain as I stare up at him.

“Nor with pain and blood.” I quietly announce.

Blood drips from my forehead also,

Its thickness clinging to my skin in wads.

“How do you kill a god?” I finally say,

Memories flash like lightening in my eyes.

“The same way you kill hope.”

The king of the gods falls,

His mighty form crashing to the ground.

“By bleeding it of all its power.”
