Ghost

Nobody notices me as I move through the crowd,

Drifting between people in a hollow and empty form.

My body is transparent; silent and cold.

Eyes drift over me as I slip into the shadows,

The silhouette of my frame floating slowly across the dirt.

Gravestones greet me as I move from one headstone to another.

There are ghosts here too,

Their hollow forms shimmering in the sunlight.

Nobody notices me here either,

Their shadowy figures haunting the places they died.

A moan for attention slips from me,

But no one responds.

I move on,

Traipsing up a hill to the strong willow tree.

It’s branches curl and sway as the wind pushes against it,

Leaves wafting through me as I lay against its trunk.

Clouds hover above me in the blue sky,

The wind whispering jokes in my ear.

The world is empty for me,

And I’m the only one in it.
