Whisper in the Dark

Darkness is swirling around me.

Black like ink and as thick as fog.

It floods through me hollowing me out.

Emptiness fills me up as the darkness weighs me down.

Ice freezes my mind making it painful to think.

Every part of me screams but no sound can be heard.

No light reaches me.

Not even starlight.

All I see is darkness.

A warm glow flickers in the distance.

It’s soft rays of light small and weary.

The darkness skittering from it.

I push myself from the ground with aching limbs.

Pain shoots through me with each step I take.

My fingers and toes begin to go numb.

The light is small and fragile.

A weak star that threatens to burn out.

Its warmth gentle and soft.

Delicately I clasp it tight.

I pull it to my chest.

It rests beside my heart.

There I lay.

A star in my ribs.

Encircled by darkness.
