There is Fire Inside Me

There is fire inside me,

Burning at my throat,

And threatening to char my heart.

It singes at my stomach,

Blazing in my lungs,

And simmering against my back.

I feel it bubble and boil,

Like a volcano with lava,

Threatening to spew from my mouth.

I gulp in air,

Clamping my mouth shut,

And letting the pressure build up.

Breathe.

The heat subsides,

And the fire cools,

Smoke curling from my lips.

There is fire inside me,

And I refuse to let it burn anyone but myself.
